Wildfire Danger Wednesday
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -More wind and elevated fire danger on Wednesday. A First Weather Watch is in effect for tomorrow as winds will increase from the southwest and temperatures will warm to around 80 degrees.
Winds may top 40 mph by mid to late afternoon creating low humidity levels and combining with warm temps to increase the danger of wildfires.
The day will start mild and moist but as the dryline moves eastward during the day the humidity levels will drop, winds increase and afternoon temperatures will soar to near or above 80 degrees.
Thursday will bring some relief with slightly lower temps, along with lower wind speeds and that means a lower chance of wildfires. However, the area is very dry and the danger will be present for the rest of the week.
Some relief in the form of rain will be possible beginning Friday afternoon through Saturday night. Another upper level storm will move across the Panhandle and bring strong winds and possibly scattered showers and storms to the South Plains. Stronger storms will likely be limited to the eastern South Plains Saturday afternoon and evening.
Cooler temps will return to the region over the weekend.
