LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - An area family is looking to raise money to help victims of domestic violence, in memory of 19-year-old Haven Trevino, who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend back in November 2020.

Police say Haven was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in front of Orlando’s at South Loop 289 and Indiana Avenue. Then, later that day, the shooter killed himself.

The family is looking to collect women and children’s clothing and baby supplies for Haven’s birthday. They say Haven’s baby Ezra, now 15 months old, was the light of her life.

GOFUNDME: Sending Haven to heaven

“We are trying to start a foundation, and we’re trying to name it The Helping Hands of Haven. We want to do this every year on her birthday, in memory of her. Hopefully we can give clothing for women and children who are fleeing a similar situation to Haven’s and offer them something,” said Haven’s cousin Hannah Yunker.

Hannah and Haven’s Aunt, Kim Hernandez, say they do not want anyone to go through domestic violence or have a domestic violence tragedy like they did.

“The abuser wants to make you think, ‘Oh, I can change.’ and they’re not that, it’s not instantaneous, no matter how much you want to believe it is, no matter how much you want to hope and pray that who they were yesterday isn’t who they are today. That’s not possible. And if you want, if you want to believe that they are different from who they are, my best advice would be to give them time to change away from you.”

The family says they are still deciding where they will donate. If you are interested in donating, contact Kim Hernandez, Haven’s aunt, at 806-466-6358.
