LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Aaliyah Chavez is a 14-year-old 8th grader at Evans Middle School. In the last month the Class of 2025 athlete landed her first two Division I offers from the Lady Raiders and Arkansas.

“I was really surprised just because I felt like I’ve been pushing all my life just trying to get an offer to college. I was excited when I got my second offer. I’m pushing myself showing that I can play with older kids.”

Aaliyah has been in countless hours daily to hone her skills out at The Lab at 55-4 Wayne Avenue with her dad Sonny. She has incredible work ethic and solid ball-handling and shooting skills. While I was there, I was blown away. She took close to 300 shots and only missed five or six.

“I try not to. I put up 1500 to 2000 shots a day and I really want to show I can shoot. I’m not just a point guard.”

Despite being 14, Aaliyah plays up two grades on the 16U EYBL Nike/Cy Fair team in the Metroplex. In the last tournament, she averaged 18 points 5 rebounds and six assists a game.

In September she will be a Freshman at Monterey and start her high school career with the Lady Plainsmen.

Remember she’s only so she’ll keep improving and keep getting DI offers.
