Stanford rolls to Game 1 win over Red Raiders 15-3
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The only thing hotter than the 107 degree temperature at Rip Griffin Park was Stanford’s bats! The Cardinal had 14 hits, including three home runs as they flew past the Red Raiders 15-3 in Game 1 of the Best of 3 Super Regional at Rip Griffin Park Friday afternoon.
The Red Raiders must win 2 p.m. Saturday to force a winner take all Game 3 at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Stanford posted four runs in the first, including a solo home run from Tim Tawa.
Texas Tech got on the board in the fourth as Cole Stillwell hit a home run.
Stanford led 6-2 in the 7th when the Cardinal exploded for five runs to break the game open and take an 11-2 lead.
The Red Raiders committed three critical errors in the game.
Stanford’s starting pitcher Brendan Beck went 7.1 innings, allowing two runs with 12 strikeouts.
Stanford added three more runs in the 8th and a homer in the 9th, making it 15-2.
The Red Raiders now must rally and regroup to win Saturday and Sunday to advance to the College World Series.
