LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - An investigation is underway into a crash that sent a pickup through the fence of the Children’s Home of Lubbock on Sunday morning. Police reported Monday morning the driver died of his injuries.

Lubbock police say the crash happened around 7:40 a.m. on the Idalou Highway.

The pickup was the only vehicle involved.

Police say a Nissan Titan, driven by 27-year-old Julian Hernandez, was traveling northeast when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence and utility pole.

It appears to have ended up in the metal and brick fencing along the Children’s Home property on the south side of the highway.

Hernandez was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit will conduct a follow-up crash investigation on January 18, starting at 9 a.m. in the 4400 block of Idalou Road. The northeast lanes will be down to one lane, with a shift in which lanes are closed as the investigation progresses. This operation is expected to take about two hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid this area and plan to use an alternate route since delays are expected.

LPD is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one with serious injuries.
