Warm and breezy today, severe weather potential this evening
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Quiet weather we saw yesterday will be disturbed today by our next cold front. This front bringing us breezy winds and a slim chance for showers and storms mainly off of the Caprock.
A warmer start to the day today with temps quickly climbing into the 80s and lower 90s this afternoon. A high of 87 degrees in Lubbock with some cloud cover moving in this afternoon. Winds will remain breezy throughout the day from the southwest around 15-25 mph. Winds may gust a bit more as our front passes this afternoon.
Rain chances increase late this afternoon into the early evening hours. Showers looks to develop along a dry line that will surge to the east, with storms popping up along and off of the Caprock. Severe weather threat is for areas off the Caprock, better chance for the far eastern counties in our viewing area. The main threats will be quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph. Some heavier rain is possible in the strongest storms but unfortunately elsewhere will likely remain dry.
Monday will be cooler as winds switch to the north. Light breeze throughout the day around 10-15 mph. Highs tomorrow in the 60s with mostly cloudy skies. Everywhere across the South Plains has the potential for a light shower or two tomorrow, with storms again popping up along the southeastern portion of the viewing area tomorrow afternoon. Those storms again have the chance to become severe but that is mainly out of our area.
Rebounding temps into the 80s again Tuesday with strong winds returning.
