Lubbock father faces tough times after storm damage
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A local father is struggling to recover after the violent dust storm that hit Lubbock earlier this month, causing significant damage to his home and vehicles.
On March 14, powerful winds up to 80 mph uprooted a massive oak tree, rushing Matt Meredith’s daughter’s car and damaging his home. Fortunately, his truck, parked directly next to their car, survived the storm with only minor damage.
Meredith, a single father raising two teenage daughters, had no idea the tree would fall. His landlord had removed another tree just the day before, thinking it was the real danger.
“We thought life was going to get a little easier, and it’s just another step behind,” Meredith said.
His daughters were preparing to share the car, which had been given to him by his parents in exchange for yard work. Now, as he works to replace it, Meredith has turned to his community for support.
His friend set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of replacing the totaled vehicle.
“It’s nice to see outreach from the public. For friends, family, people that even know me just want to lend kind words and money,” Meredith said.
