LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - TxDOT held a public meeting Thursday evening to discuss a plan to replace bridges along the South Loop.

The project will replace the two bridges of South Loop 289 over Slide Road and turn them into one bridge structure. The bridges were built in the 1970s and have reached their lifespan, according to TxDOT.

Construction is expected to begin in spring of next year and take around six months if everything goes according to schedule.

Drivers will have to use the eastbound and westbound frontage roads. The area of Slide Road that crosses under the bridges will be closed during construction.

Those who were not able to attend the meeting can provide input by visiting TxDOT.gov and searching “SL 289 Bridge Replacement” to submit comments. All questions and concerns must be posted by July 13.
