Applesauce recalled after elevated levels of substance produced by mold found

(CNN) - Wakefern Food Corporation has recalled some of its apple sauce.

The recalled product may contain elevated levels of patulin, a substance produced by molds that grow on bruised and damaged apples.

The only impacted item is Wholesome Pantry Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce sold in 23-ounce jars with a best-by date of June 16, 2027.

The product was sold at ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market stores.

The stores are issuing refunds for returned jars.
