Cary Shaw won the Republican nomination for Lubbock County Commissioner Precinct 3 Tuesday. He will face Democrat Commissioner Gilbert Flores in November.
Southwest Lubbock County voters have selected new representation on the commissioners court. Mike Dalby garnered 63 percent of the vote, defeating incumbent Terence Kovar. No Democrat ran in that party’s primary.
Voters will decide on 14 Texas Constitutional Amendments and whether to use more than $35 million of Lubbock County tax-payer money to construct the new medical examiner’s office.
In a difficult cycle for Democrats, the race was widely seen as the most competitive statewide election because of Paxton’s laundry list of legal troubles.
During the campaign, Hegar touted his work on lowering taxes and expanding broadband in Texas, reforming the tax code, reducing regulations on agriculture and pushing for government transparency.
Bush’s defeat in the race for attorney general could mark the end of a four-generation political dynasty, and the end of an era of Texas politics that began when the first George Bush moved to Odessa in 1948.
Clifton Shaw beat John Gatica 62% to 38% in unofficial results for the Slaton Mayoral Race runoff, while Valarie Cubit beat Frankie Cisneros 52% to 48% in the runoff for Slaton City Commissioner, Ward 4.
“As much as the country would like to move on from this election, it would be unwise to accept any outcome before recounts are final and it has been examined by the courts and determined to be fair and accurate,” Arrington said.
We have final vote totals now for city and county races, with most state races clear enough to anticipate a winner. Results are considered final but unofficial until certified by election officials.
“We’ve been at it for four and a half years, and we’re going to stay the course. There’s some really, really bright days in front of us as a community.”
