Shallowater sees recent spike in population growth

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There are at least three new developments going up either in Shallowater or within the Shallowater School District.   From 2001 through 2008 Shallowater had steady growth, as measured by the Census Bureau, from 2,133 to 2,289 people.

But now in 2009 the population is estimated to be 2,500. That's not a census number, at least not yet.  That's an estimate based on the number of water meters.  So, we asked the mayor, how is Shallowater attracting all those new people?

"I think there are people who are looking for that convenience of being close to Lubbock," says Robert Olmsted Jr.  "But it is kind of nice to sit out on the back porch and look out across a cotton field."
