Texas Tech has kicked off GEAR (Get Excited About Robotics) where local elementary and middle school students get the chance to work with Tech Engineering students to build and program Lego robots.

Students will learn engineering skills through team exercises and their robots will be able to move and solve challenges.

The competition has since grown from a trial run in 2006 with 150 participating teams to about 500 students this year coming from more than 30 schools from around the South Plains.
