Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine students will host a Women's Health Day free clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 31 at the Lubbock IMPACT/TTUHSC Free Clinic, 2707 34th St.

The facility is a non-billing clinic where people without medical insurance can be seen for various medical problems. Patients of all ages seek care on a first-come first-served basis each Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.; however, routine women's health services are not normally offered during these hours.

The Women's Health Day clinic in March will provide medical services like pelvic exams and pap smears, STD screenings, breast exams, pregnancy tests and prenatal referrals as well as referrals for bone density screenings and mammograms.

School of Medicine Student Leader Sydney Reynolds said it is important for women to participate in the screenings because many diseases can be detected early with mammograms and pap smears.

"Prevention is key. Women should get screened and have routine heath care to help lower their risks of many health conditions," Reynolds said. "Many women don't take the time or have the resources to visit a clinic. The Women's Health Day is a perfect opportunity to see how your health is."

Fiona Prabhu, M.D., serves as the clinic's medical director, and Kelly Bennett, M.D., is the assistant medical director. Both are from the TTUHSC Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Also available will be personalized resource counseling and Children's Health Insurance Program application assistance. Transportation is available by request. For transportation, to make an appointment or for any questions, call (806) 337-2098.
