LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One man is in custody today after police say he led them on an early morning car chase in central Lubbock.

Police say a vehicle was stolen just before 7 a.m. after the owner left it running to warm it up. Police located the vehicle on 48th Street, but when they tried to pull it over, they say the suspect drove off.

Police chased him east down 48th Street where they say he ran a stop sign and crashed into a pickup truck driving south along Knoxville. The suspect then fled the accident scene on foot.

Authorities found and arrested the suspect - Cody Allen McCarty, 22 -  soon after the crash.

He is now facing charges of evading arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Police also found stolen property in the vehicle.

Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident.
