The Narcotics Unit of the Lubbock Police Department confiscated nearly nine pounds of synthetic drugs from Mr. JJ's Smoke Shop at 50th and Avenue U on Thursday.

However, KCBD saw the banned substance being sold at the store just a few days later on Monday.

The store manager, 22-year-old Billy Cantu, was arrested for first degree felony possession.

JJ's Smoke Shop did not want to make a comment about the incident but one witness says it was a pretty shocking ordeal.

" (In) the corner of my eye I see a bunch of guys get off in ski masks and they had AR-15's and they all single file went down the sidewalk," said Eric Oliva, owner of a nearby barber shop.

Lubbock police were immediately notified and Sgt. Jason Lewis said they will continue to confront shops attempting to sell synthetic drugs.

"This has been a hot topic in the U.S. and in Lubbock and we are doing everything that we can to address the problem," he said.

Sgt. Lewis wants the public to know that these products are very dangerous to users.

"It is illegal to sell it. It is illegal to possess it. You may be arrested if you have possession of it and it is not safe," said Sgt. Lewis.

Businesses could be fined up to $2,000 and individuals $500 if convicted.
