A DPS trooper had to call for help on Saturday afternoon when he walked outside and found his patrol car, and another vehicle, on fire in the driveway. The fire spread to the house at 9400 E CR 7000.

Ransom Canyon, Slaton, Buffalo Springs, and Roosevelt Fire Departments were all called to the scene on Saturday afternoon.

A representative from the Texas Department of Public Safety tells us:

"Around 3:45 p.m., a DPS trooper was at his house. He heard a pop, went outside and found his patrol car and another vehicle on fire in the driveway. He called for the fire department. The fire spread to the house. There were live rounds of ammunition in the patrol car, but they don't think any of them went off and made it outside the car. Only part of the house sustained fire damage. A portion of the roof collapsed. He was the only one home at the time. No injuries reported."

Part of the roof collapsed and half the house suffered damage, but the trooper was the only one home and he was not injured.

The Ashmore Inn has offered to house the family for at least tonight.

We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.
