LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A train crashed into a cotton module truck northwest of Shallowater around 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

It happened at a crossing along Highway 84 at Farm Road 2378.

First responders pronounced the truck driver dead at the scene.

Investigators tell us the victim is 35-year-old Mario Flores of McAllen, Texas.

They say Flores was stopped on the tracks when the train hit his truck.

His father was stopped in another truck in front of him and witnessed the accident.

Sgt. Bryan Witt with the Texas Department of Public Safety said, "We don't know if he just didn't see the train or he expected the truck to go in front of him, but couldn't go. We always want to remind the public, do not stop on these tracks for any reason, because these trains cannot stop quickly."

The railroad crossing where the accident happened does not have lights or crossing arms.
