There are new developments in the investigation into sexual assault claims made against Lubbock City Attorney Sam Medina.

A special prosecutor is now assigned to the case.

Medina's attorney said the claims were made by his soon-to-be ex-daughter-in-law. Medina said the claims are not true, but asked to be placed on leave during the investigation.

The Lubbock County District Attorney has handed the case over to the 47th District Attorney's Office in Potter County.

Divorce proceedings are underway between Medina's son and the alleged victim.

47th District Attorney Randall Sims said his office has a representative there so they know what is going on in the divorce case and whether it could affect any pending criminal investigations.
