The Texas police officer who shot and killed a 93-year-old woman has been fired.

The Hearne City Council made the decision Saturday night in a unanimous vote.

Police say the officer shot Pearlie Golden on Tuesday night after she refused to put down her handgun.

Golden's nephew says she armed herself when he refused to return her car keys after she couldn't get her driver's license renewed.

He says his aunt fired two shots into the ground before the office shot her.

Local residents of Hearne said they are still shocked by what happened.

"It wasn't right, what he did," Jonathan Wallace said. "It was justified that he needed to be released from the force. For one reason, she's an old lady."

This is the officer's second deadly shooting in the line of duty.

He was cleared of any wrongdoing in the first shooting.

The officer was invited to attend Saturday's meeting but declined.
