HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - A driver is in custody after a high-speed chase on Monday afternoon.

DPS representatives say they were attempting to stop a vehicle, a 2004 Chevy pickup, for a defective front license plate when it refused to stop and evaded the trooper.

The chase continued for nine minutes, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, but troopers say the vehicle attempted to drive through a field and got stuck in the damp soil.

The driver, Valentine Gonzales Moreno, 40, of Brownfield, was taken into custody and booked into the Hockley County Jail.

Moreno had an outstanding warrant for organized crime. He has been charged with possession of illegal drugs that were found in the vehicle, evading, and tampering with evidence.
