UMC Health System was recognized last night as an outstanding place to work by Modern Healthcare.

UMC was honored at the organization's Best Places to Work in Healthcare Conference & Gala on Thursday night in Chicago. UMC ranked No. 1 for providers/insurers, and No. 2 overall on a list that includes providers, insurers and medial suppliers.

"To be nationally ranked in anything is humbling, but I'm extremely proud because this reflects squarely on our amazing employees," said David Allison, president and CEO of UMC Health System. "Because this a great place to work, our staff is dedicated, turnover is low, and that means better quality and a safer environment for our patients."

This is the first time UMC has appeared on Modern Healthcare's list. Data for the award was compiled by the Best Companies Group, which also compiles information for Texas Monthly's Best Companies to Work for in Texas list. UMC has ranked in the top 3 on that list for six of the past seven years.

UMC was commended by Modern healthcare for the amount of training and education hours offered annually per employee, paid time off for volunteer or community service work, the hospital's greeter program at main entrances to communicate effectively with visitors, patients and staff, and quarterly lunches and dinners.
