LPD officer arrested, charged with 3rd-degree felony

Today an arrest warrant was served on LPD Corporal Jay White, 2-17-72, charging him with two counts of Continuous Violence Against the Family, a 3rd Degree Felony. Corporal White was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Facility and booked into jail.

On September 13, 2014, Corporal White was arrested by the Ruidoso, NM Police Department for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. The Ruidoso Police Chief notified the LPD of Corporal White's arrest and about a disturbance call involving him that Ruidoso officers responded to earlier that evening. An Internal Affairs investigation was initiated, and Corporal White was soon after placed on paid administrative leave while the incidents were investigated. Questions regarding these matters occurring in New Mexico should be referred to the Ruidoso Police Department.

On October 20, 2014, Corporal White's fiance contacted LPD Internal Affairs and reported an incident of alleged domestic violence that occurred in Lubbock a few days prior. A criminal investigation was then initiated by LPD Person Crimes detectives along with the ongoing Internal Affairs investigation. Subsequently, charges leading to the above arrest warrant were filed with the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney's office.

This remains an ongoing investigation, and Corporal White will remain on paid administrative leave for the immediate time being. Corporal White has been with the LPD since 2002.
