SUNDOWN, TX (KCBD) - A Sundown child who was taken by her non-custodial parent on Wednesday is now safe at home, but police are now searching for her mother.
The child, 2-year-old Averi Jamie Lovato was found at a home in Levelland and is now back with her legal guardians.
Averi's maternal grandparents say they were given full custody of Averi when she was four months old.
They tell us the girl's mother, Brenda, came to their home in Sundown around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and asked if she could take Averi out to breakfast. Averi's grandparents agreed, under the condition that she be brought back within 30 minutes.
Around 10 a.m., when Brenda and Averi were not back, her grandfather went searching for them. When he could not find Averi or Brenda in Sundown they went to the police.
Sundown Chief of Police Carey James tells us they gathered the information from Averi's grandparents and began searching around 11:30 a.m.
Chief James says no Amber Alert was triggered because this case did not meet all of the criteria. They say there was no evidence that Averi was in immediate danger.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Brenda Lovato on Thursday afternoon.
