Trevino indicted, charged with manslaughter in death of Matthew Salazar
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - 28-year-old Christopher Trevino has been indicted and charged with manslaughter in the death of 32-year-old Matthew Salazar.
A Lubbock grand jury indicted Trevino on Tuesday.
The Lubbock County Medical Examiner released a statement back in January listing Salazar's cause of death as "Craniocerebral Injuries due to Blunt Force Trauma due to a Physical Altercation Incident."
Investigators say Salazar was assaulted early Monday morning, Jan. 26 at Tejano 97 night club on Avenue Q. Witnesses say an argument started on the dance floor, then Salazar was punched in the face, causing him to fall down the stairs. Officers found him unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs.
He was taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries and died Tuesday morning, Jan. 27.
Trevino has turned himself in and was held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
Rod Hobson, attorney for Tejano 97 released this statement on Jan. 29:
"The management of Tejano 97 would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the family of Matt Salazar as they mourn the loss of their loved one who died at our establishment this last weekend. Tejano 97 is now, and has always been committed to the safety of our patrons. Since there is an ongoing police investigation relating to the unfortunate matter, our comments must be brief. Mr. Salazar was in the process of being removed from the club when another patron assaulted Mr. Salazar and his injuries were the result of the attack. Tejano 97 is fully cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation. Tejano 97 is in the process of examining the protocol to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Salazar family."
