Abernathy school district raises thousands for New Deal family
Tuesday night the New Deal basketball teams played their last home game of the season against Abernathy.
And while the two teams battled it out on the court, between games Abernathy presented a gift to members of the New Deal family.
24-year-old Kaleb Hockenberry was shot in the neck in November of 2014, and is currently recovering at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
The shooting left him paralyzed from the chest down. His family has made it a top priority to be by his side during his recovery.
Craig is one of the top hospitals in the country for rehabilitation, and the cost of his treatment is a real concern.
So to help cover the costs the Abernathy district raised $2,800 for the Hockenberry family, and presented them with a check Tuesday night.
