LPD arrests aggravated kidnapping suspect

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock police have arrested a suspect in an aggravated kidnapping that happened Tuesday.

Police say they arrested 27-year-old Darene Brooks in the 5400 block of 31st Street just before 4 p.m. Friday.

Brooks allegedly pulled up in a vehicle and grabbed a 12-year-old girl as she was walking home near 21st and Knoxville at some point before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Brooks then allegedly sexually assaulted the girl before driving to Stripes in the 200 block of 50th Street.

The victim told police she managed to run away and hid in the Stripes bathroom.

Brooks was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with aggravated kidnapping.
