LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Crystal Carillo and her family have been living along 44
St. for six years and said they were shocked to learn about what happened just a few houses down from theirs.
“This has been a quiet neighborhood – no violence, no nothing has been going on; so this was a shock to me,” Crystal said.
At around 2 a.m. Saturday, police received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance and responded to a home in the 5,000 block of 44
St. Officers said they found 27-year-old Jennifer Cruz and 30-year-old Albert Martinez with fatal gunshot wounds when they entered residence.
Residents living in the area said that they did not know the victims personally, but one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said that she has never noticed signs of trouble at the home.
“We don't know them personally, but there's nothing ever really rowdy,” the neighbor said. “It's scary that we don't know and it's so close to home.”
Police said they were able to gather enough information to issue an arrest warrant for 29-year-old David Carrillo of Lubbock. Police said he had been in a prior relationship with Cruz. Hours later, just before 1 p.m., he was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.
While the suspect remains behind bars, the neighborhood remains shaken.
“It makes me feel scared for them and makes me want to move out,” Crystal said. “You hear about shootings across Lubbock and I hope it just happened among their family. I hope it doesn't happen again.”
