LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Fire Rescue is at the scene where a truck pulling a trailer of horses caught on fire.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. on Slaton Highway just east of I-27 heading west toward South Loop 289.

A woman driving the truck says she smelled a strong gasoline odor, so she pulled over. Once the truck was on the side of the road, it began to smoke and caught on fire.

The driver was able to get a baby and two dogs out of the truck safely.

All three horses were safely removed from the trailer before the fire spread. Several drivers pulled over to help the woman remove the horses from the trailer.

The truck is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
