Muleshoe victim's gunshot wound not self-inflicted

Approximately 11:08 am, Friday, May 15, 2015, Officers of the Muleshoe Police Department, Bailey County Sheriff's Department, and Bailey County EMS were dispatched to the 300 block of E. D Street, Muleshoe in reference to a self inflicted gunshot victim.
Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the resident and observed an apparent gunshot wound in the upper thigh area. Officers spoke with a witness at the scene and located the weapon. The victim was transported by ambulance to Bailey County Medical Center and then airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock.
While conducting a scene investigation, the Texas Rangers were called in to assist the local investigators due to evidence located at the residence.
The Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation into the shooting but have determined that the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted.
Joseph Alarcon Gonzales,29, is charged with Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Firearm. He is being held at the Bailey County Jail facing a combined $100,000 bond.
