LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - LPD sources tell us Assistant Chief of Police James Shavers has been moved from the detective division to patrol.

This decision was made by Police Chief Roger Ellis just days after the police department released a statement addressing the Crime Line Tip that led to the discovery of Mark Ysasaga's body - releasing Christian Castro, who LPD named as a "person of interest" in Ysasaga's murder.

Shavers oversaw the investigations Lubbock Police were involved in, including the Ysasaga murder and the release of Castro.

Sources close to the investigation tells us Castro called in the tip while in police custody naming the location of Ysasaga's body, then received the $10,000 reward and was escorted out of town by investigators.

LPD sources tell us Assistant Chief of Police Jerry Brewer will now be stepping in to the detective division and that this decision is permanent.

Chief Ellis was not available for comment.

We have not confirmed the reason for this change, but we will continue to track the latest developments and keep you updated.
