LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Police Chief Roger Ellis was demoted to Captain on Friday, under the authority of City Manager James Loomis, "in accordance with civil service laws."

The City of Lubbock announced the change in a press release on Friday afternoon.

Assistant Chief Jerry Brewer will serve as acting chief until a search for a new chief can be completed. Brewer has been with LPD for 26 years.

Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson gave us this statement:

"This isn't the first time we've had a major shakeup at the top in a city department. The last time it happened proved to be a very good move. Look at LP&L today compared to a year ago. Great things happened because changes were made and I just hope we can see the same result here."
