LSO admits erroneous release of wanted fugitive

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $10,000 reward for the recovery of Ernest Ray Zavala, but on Friday night, the Lubbock Sheriff's Office admitted that it had Zavala in custody and "erroneously" released him on Tuesday, June 23.

The Lubbock Sheriff's Office released this statement on Friday evening:

On June 23, 2015 the Lubbock Sheriff Office erroneously released Ernest Ray Zavala from the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Zavala is wanted for the crime of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Armed Career Criminal. The U.S. Marshals Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to his arrest.
