Man accused in assault of Tech student now facing drug charges

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One of the men accused in a brutal assault of a Texas Tech student is now facing additional charges.
28-year-old Alfredo Lopez, and 21-year-old Brad Duru are charged with the aggravated assault of 24-year-old Gregory Avari.
Avari was found severely injured and unresponsive on the afternoon of July 19 at the University Trails Apartment complex at Avenue V and Main Street.
According to a warrant obtained by KCBD, when Lubbock police arrested Lopez in his home they found more than $21,000 worth of drugs and a gun.
So now, in addition to the assault charge, Lopez is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deal.
Lopez remains behind bars on a combined bond of $125,000.
