LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A man is behind bars after he crashed his pickup causing a power outage in North Lubbock Thursday morning.

Police say the driver of a 2004 Chevy pickup hit a utility pole, at 4th Street and Slide Road, around 1:20 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the driver, 19-year-old Dax Hayes, backed up, turned east onto 4th Street, and then ditched the vehicle on Vale Avenue.

An officer responding to the scene saw the suspect jump a fence, near Prosperity Bank, and took Hayes into custody. Hayes is charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.

The accident knocked down a power line and caused two utility poles to lean over. Crews worked to repair the utility poles Thursday morning.

LP&L's power outage map showed that nearly 2,200 customers were affected by the power outage, including the United and McDonald's at 4th Street and Slide Road.
