LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech is gearing up for the last home game of the season against Kansas State but Saturday's game is special for other reasons
They are also celebrating Senior Day and America Day.
Texas Tech Athletics Senior Director Robert Giovannetti says student game attendance has been down nationally but the Red Raiders are up in record numbers.
"Our student attendance has increased over the last several years or maintained," he said. "Which is different than you would see in most schools across the country."
Texas Tech freshman Marvin Kouame attributes the attendance trend to a lively student body.
"A lot of other schools, they have bigger football teams so you would expect more attendance there," he said. "But it just goes to show, Texas Tech, we have a great a student environment and the fan base is really nice."
As an extension of Veterans Day, Texas Tech has invited first responders to the game.
"We'll have the Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Fire Department, EMS, Texas DPS all represented," he said. "We'll have their vehicles outside the stadium so families can look at a police car or a fire engine or those kind of things that sometimes you don't see up close and personal. We'll just try to make it a great family event as far as the first responders and honor them inside the stadium."
Cannon Air Force Base will fly several large jets over the stadium and 23 seniors will be honored.
