Warren, Former Lady Raider, Files for Congressional Seat Vacated by Neugebauer

Austin, Texas – DeRenda Warren, Republican candidate for Texas' 19th U.S. Congressional District, filed for a place on the ballot last week in Austin at the Texas Republican Party headquarters. After review and approval of her ballot application by state party officials, Warren is a filed candidate for that office according to the Texas Secretary of State.

Texas election law allows for congressional candidates to submit at least 500 signatures from registered voters in the district in lieu of a $3,125 filing fee.  Warren and her supporters collected and submitted nearly 700 signatures from voters within the 19th District.

"I am not a career politician, so this grassroots approach to filing for candidacy has given me a broad base of support to build from, as well as the opportunity to meet and listen to the concerns of the voters in the district," Warren said.

Central to Warren's campaign platform is joining House Republicans in repealing the Affordable Care Act, which she contends has stifled small businesses since going into effect. "If you're sick of Obamacare, send a nurse to Washington," Warren maintains.

Warren has 30 years' experience in the medical field as a registered nurse and nursing administrator. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Texas Tech, her Nursing Degree from Methodist School of Nursing, and a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration.

Warren says that she decided to run for Congress after overwhelming encouragement from local farmers in her community. "They know that I bring a working knowledge of the healthcare issues we are facing now, as well as a lifetime of experience in agriculture," Warren said.

Warren, a Hockley County resident, is a former Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball player, led by coach Marsha Sharp from 1980-1982. Warren is also a rancher and farmer, with a husband in law enforcement and one son in Border Patrol. She is a mother of 5 and grandmother of 8.
