LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - With just one week until Christmas, shoppers are still packing in to Lubbock stores.
The Lubbock Economic Index says holiday retail sales are on track to break records.
Last year, annual retail spending totaled $2 billion. This year it's up by $52 million, with our biggest shopping season still in progress.
We went to JCPenney where sales are rising fast with Christmas approaching.
While most people try to avoid the crowds, Lubbock native Liz Salazar was doing her shopping last minute on purpose.
"Last year was the first year I had finished early and I didn't like it. It was no fun!"
Liz loves being in the busy holiday shopping atmosphere.
"Looking and feeling their energy and getting all excited about what am I going to find - am I going to find one or not?"
Ana Martinez has been with JCPenney for the duration of the holiday season and has seen sales go up 20 percent in each department. She also says she thrives on the rush.
"I love this department and I love everybody that comes in here. These are select items. It's kind of an intimate sale because its such a big purchase and it's so beautiful."
