TTU suggesting restriction on guns in dorms, despite AG ruling

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech University is suggesting a ban on guns in dorms, despite Attorney General Ken Paxton's say on the matter.

That's according to the Dallas Morning News.

This follows a similar ban suggested by the University of Texas, as the state prepares for the new campus carry law that takes effect in August.

The campus carry law allows licensed carrying of concealed handguns in most public university buildings.

Texas Tech Provost, Lawrence Schovanec tells the Morning News that the Tech task force has recommended setting aside part of one specific dorm for those who want to live on campus and carry a concealed handgun.

Schovanec says the proposal could change before it's submitted to the Board of Regents in February.

However, Attorney General Ken Paxton says that would violate the law if those bans are put into effect.

KCBD is scheduled to sit down with Provost Schovanec Wednesday morning to talk about this proposed ban.
