LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Most of us eat more rich foods over the holidays and end up wearing those extra pounds into the New Year.
If you'd like to lose some pounds, take some advice from Dr. Mimi Zumwalt. She believes nutrition and exercise work together to make us healthier, even younger looking. When you see how young she looks at age 54, that would prove her case.
Dr. Mimi Zumwalt practices what she preaches.
She is an Orthopedic Surgeon at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and the 3 time World champion in the over 50 Tri-Fitness Challenge.
She follows a modified Paleo diet which mostly combines meat, fish, chicken, fruits, vegetables and nuts.
But her greatest focus is on regular exercise.
Dr. Mimi Zumwalt works out every day and teaches BootCamp classes at Body Works. She is also a personal trainer in her spare time…
Recently promoted to full Professor at TTUHSC, we can all learn something from this pint size powerhouse; exercise keeps us looking and feeling younger.
So what is her prescription when it comes to a good exercise routine for the rest of us?
She says, "Every other day for sure. You may want to do upper (exercises) one day and lower the next day and then add cardio into it to help with the lungs and the heart."
Dr. Zumwalt writes a monthly fitness article for Natural Muscle Magazine, which is based out of Forida.
Closer to home, Dr. Zumwalt has started a new program to encourage us to keep strong.
It's called "Muscle by Mimi". You can learn more about that on her facebook page... along with some videos she has included there to help you exercise at home.
