LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Guns will now be allowed in the Gaines County courthouse, after a ruling from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Commissioners voted on the issue Monday, after discussing it for the third time this month.

Guns will not be allowed in designated courtrooms and court offices, as is called for under the law.

But, those with a license to carry will be able to bring their weapon into other areas of the courthouse.

The decision follows an opinion issued by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Paxton says if a building houses other offices in addition to courts - like the Gaines County Courthouse - those areas should not restrict open carry.
