LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center is sponsoring a first of its kind event to celebrate burn survivors of West Texas after taking care of more than 6,000 patients at that center.

It's a chance for those patients and their families to share their stories and help others, something Dr. John Griswold says can be an important part of the healing process.

Dr. Griswold is a surgeon, Texas Tech Physician and Medical Director of the Burn Unit. He says, "Burn injuries are not just a serious, severe physical problem, It has immense psychological impact on the patients and their families. And many times, these individuals don't have any way to share their worries, their struggles,  and realize there are others probably going through the same thing."

If you'd like to be a part of this first event to celebrate and support burn survivors, you don't need a reservation. Just go to UMC this Saturday. It's from Noon to 2 p.m.on the 3rd floor.

It's free and lunch will be provided.
