GAINES COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - Gaines County employees now have the right to bring their guns to work.
Commissioners passed the policy during Tuesday's court meeting.
Gaines County Judge Tom Keyes says discussions started in January.
"The statistics seem to suggest people commit gun violence in no gun zones. perhaps the presence of guns can help reduce the commission of gun crimes," Keyes said.
However, the new Gaines County policy is not a free for all.
Employees must be licensed, trained, and their gun must be concealed.
Only law enforcement and those with a written note from the judge can bring their weapon into the courtroom.
