ODESSA, TX (KCBD) - A woman caught on camera stealing a $10 ring from a woman laying in repose at the Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas has been arrested.

On Saturday, April 9, just before 1:45 p.m., Odessa police responded to the funeral home in the 6800 block of East Highway 80 for a report of theft of a deceased person.

After investigating, police discovered that a woman stole a ring from a deceased woman, Lois Hicks, on Friday, April 8 around 5:30 p.m.

Police said the theft took less than three minutes for her to go into the viewing room and take the wedding ring from Hicks.

The suspect was later identified as 41-year-old Kaylynn Homfeld. She was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Homfeld is charged with theft from a human corpse.

According to our sister station KWES in Odessa, authorities said Homfeld could be facing a felony charge for taking the $10 ring off a dead woman's finger this past weekend. Police say funeral homes sometimes use replicas or costume jewelry at viewings to prevent situations like this from happening.

If Homfeld is found guilty, she faces up to two years behind bars.
