LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Preservation Texas is working to save the old Lubbock County Jail.
The 1931 Art Deco-style building will be vacant soon once the sheriff moves to a new location.
But on Friday, Preservation Texas placed the jail on their "Most Endangered List."
Now the Lubbock Heritage Society wants to see the jail re-purposed with the downtown redevelopment project.
Lubbock Heritage Society President Pamela Brink said, "The endangered list is just the beginning. What we hope will happen is that someone will buy it and repurpose it and make it into apartments, make it into a downtown mall, do something with it....put in a cafe."
The old Lubbock County Jail is one of just a few remaining Art Deco-style buildings in Lubbock.
