LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Wednesday morning, Don Caldwell announced he's selling the Cactus Theater in Lubbock to businessman Darryl Holland.
Holland is currently involved in a large renovation project at the Granada Theater in Plainview.
Holland says the Cactus will continue to promote local musicians, but it will feature additional, outside acts. He announced three new acts coming to the Cactus during a news conference.
Country singer Sammy Kershaw is scheduled to perform on July 22, guitarist Esteban is scheduled to perform on July 30, and county singer Gene Watson is scheduled to perform on August 20th. Tickets for these shows are slated to go on sale Thursday, June 23.
Holland says he is also looking to complete some remodeling at the Cactus, including changes to the lobby and ticket booth areas and reconfiguring the stage area. He would also like to add a screen to possibly show independent films.
Caldwell says he will continue to operate Caldwell Productions, and he announced that he's creating a weekly TV show to feature west Texas performers. Caldwell says he hopes to syndicate the show. Caldwell's wife will also continue with the children's program at the Cactus.
Holland says the official handover of the Cactus is scheduled to take place on July 1.
