LYNN COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety have released the cause of death of a father and his two young children in Lynn County on July 14, 2016.
Officials say Jeremy John Contreras, 36, Garett Contreras, 5, and Avery Contreras, 23 months, all died from gunshot wounds.
The three were found in a white 2004 F-250 crew cab on County Road Q, north of Tahoka, near a roadside park.
Jeremy was found in the driver's seat, Garett was found in the front passenger seat and Avery was found in the rear passenger seat.
The investigation revealed a Smith and Wesson pistol was found in Jeremy's lap.
Last month, sources told KCBD that this case could possibly be a murder-suicide involving the children's father, but that information has not been confirmed by authorities.
The Texas Rangers have taken the lead in the investigation and are assisting the Lynn County Sheriff's Office.
We were told by the Lubbock attorney representing the children's mother, that the father was supposed to drop the children off with their mother, but did not show up.
Officials with South Plains Forensic Pathology in Lubbock said all three autopsies have been completed, and the information has been turned over to officials with Lynn County.
