LYNN COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety say they are waiting on crime lab reports in the investigation of a man and his two children who were found dead inside a vehicle in Lynn County on July 14, 2016.
Officials say Jeremy John Contreras, 36, Garett Contreras, 5, and Avery Contreras, 23 months, all died from gunshot wounds.
The three were found in a white 2004 F-250 crew cab on County Road Q, north of Tahoka, near a roadside park.
Jeremy was found in the driver's seat, Garett was found in the front passenger seat and Avery was found in the rear passenger seat.
The investigation revealed a Smith and Wesson pistol was found in Jeremy's lap.
The Texas Rangers have taken the lead in the investigation and are assisting the Lynn County Sheriff's Office. Officials with DPS say the case has been expedited and should take weeks instead of months for the results.
We were told by the Lubbock attorney representing the children's mother, that Jeremy Contreras was supposed to drop the children off with their mother on July 14, but did not show up.
