LYNN COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - According to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety, alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that killed 23-year-old Katherine Colon of Tahoka.
Officials say Colon was the passenger of a Chevy Suburban that was traveling eastbound on FM 213 around 5 a.m. in Lynn County. The driver lost control of the vehicle and over corrected, going into a steep embankment of the ditch.
The SUV rolled into the field, ejecting the passenger. Officials say she was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Erika Chavarria, 26, also of Tahoka was not injured.
Officials say another female passenger in the back seat, along with a 2-year-old child also in the back seat were taken to the hospital in Tahoka, with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and Chavarria was arrested by State Troopers at the scene. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is still ongoing.
