LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - We are learning details today about a burglary early Sunday morning where a suspect was shot by the homeowner.

The Lubbock Police Department says around 2:15 a.m. Sunday police responded to a burglary call in the 3700 block of 28th Street.

When they arrived, they found the suspect with a single gunshot wound to the stomach.

LPD says the victims of the burglary were a family of six. They reported to police they were sleeping when the suspect broke through a back door and entered the kitchen. One of the victims reported to the parents there was an unknown man in the home.

The father warned the suspect that he had a gun and that the police were on their way.

The suspect then told the family to get out of the house and began pouring lighter fluid on the floor in an attempt to light it on fire.

The father says he told the suspect to stop or he would shoot. The suspect became more agitated and began approaching him until he couldn't back up any more. The father then shot the suspect in the stomach.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. None of the victims was hurt during the incident.

We will continue to update this story as we learn more details.
