Volunteer Firemen work to control fire at Cotton Gin

LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - A fire sparked at the Liberty Cooperative Gin, forcing New Deal volunteer firemen and Idalou volunteer firemen to spend hours working to control the blaze and prevent the flames from spreading. Emergency crews were first notified of the fire around 4:00 a.m. and were still on scene after 7:00 a.m.

According to a witness, the burr pile caught fire, spreading to part of a structure before it was doused with water. Weather conditions were windy as emergency responders were on scene.

The Liberty Cooperative Gin is located at 4908 E FM 1294.

No major injuries have been reported.
